The paper discusses various ways of expressing the linguistic category of participation. The concept of participation was introduced into cultural anthropology by L. Levy-Bruhl. Participation is concerned with people’s feelings towards objects around them, as well as with the evaluation of the object’s relation to the speaker. The category can be expressed by a variety of means in the Russian language. This article argues that the indirect use of Russian relation nouns (drug ‘friend’, brat ‘brother’ etc.) is most comprehensively explained by the theory of participation. В статье обсуждаются разные способы выражения языковой категории сопричастности (партиципаци), которая была введена в культурную антропологию Л. Леви-Брюлем. Эта категория связывает человека с явлениями разной природы, с которыми он испытывает внутреннюю близость. В русском языке существует большое разнообразие средств выражения сопричастности. В статье показано, что непрямое употребление реляционных имен (терминов родства и свойствá, духовной и пространственной близости) может быть объяснено с помощью теории сопричастности.
